The Miracle League at Roxbury Park is just one step closer to funding phase one of the park’s project. Recently, Pennsylvania state awarded multiple grants to facilities and projects in and around the Johnstown area. These grants were awarded through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.
Among the recipients of these grants includes our very own Miracle League park project. The grant, which totals $650,000, will go directly towards financing phase one of three phases. During phase one, we will see groundbreaking and the construction of the Miracle League field, a concessions facility, press box, four pavilions, ADA restrooms, a storm conveyance system, and enhanced parking along Berkley Road. Upon the completion of this portion of the project, the Miracle League at Roxbury Park can start its inaugural season.
Speaking to the Tribune Democrat, President Jeff Cramer said, “We’re pleased with our progress” when commenting on fundraising efforts. He goes on to say, “We’ve got a couple other things in the hopper that I don’t want to jinx, but that could get us another couple rounds of significant funding and get us over that $2 million mark.”
With the addition of the RACP grant to fundraising totals, we now stand at $1,768,000 of our $2,500,000 goal. We are getting close to our first goal and are accepting private donations to reach this threshold.
Pennsylvania State Senator Wayne Langerholc joined board members and volunteers during a press conference at the park to announce the grant.
What is the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP)?
The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) is a grant administered by the Pennsylvania Office of the Budget. As stated on the Office of the Budget’s website, the grant is administered for the “design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.”
To be eligible, the project must have a total cost of $1 million or more, generates some source of economic activity, such as an increase in employment or tax revenue, has a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and have secured at least a 50% non-state match in funding.
